The Challenge
The objective is to get our Adult Players (House and Competitive)
ready for the start of the season.
To get rid of that extra winter fat, and to have enough wind to run for a whole game.
To do that we are challenging all Adult players in the club to register,
run and train for
The Nordion 10KM Road Race
or The Dandelion Dash
.
The Nordion 10K is the largest participation road race in Ottawa, with a few people running for prizes
but thousands running just to complete the course in their own time.
This year the Nordion 10K falls on Saturday May 28, just at the start of our season.
The Dandelion Dash is Kemptville's own road race, and falls one week later on June 4th
We're setting each player a goal, based on their age, to complete the 10K in (your age + 15) minutes.
This should be achievable if you train for it over the coming weeks.
We are also offerring a prize to the best adult team.
Information For Players
Your main objectives are to register for the race, train for the race, and complete the race.
You can get all the information you need about the race,
including on-line registration at www.ncm.ca
or www.dandeliondash.com.
You also need to let your coach know that your are planning to run the race,
so that the club can watch for your name when tabulating the results.
If you can wear a KDSC soccer shirt when running the race that would be great.
Information For Coaches
Your main objective is to let your players know about the race and the challenge
and to encourage them to participate.
You also need to email the club webmaster
the names of players who are participating so that we can tabulate the results.
The Prize
The main prize is that you will be fitter at the start of the soccer season.
This will make your first few games more fun, less painful, and with a better chance of winning.
In addition:
- All Players who complete a 10K run will be listed on the club web site
- The Winning team will have bragging rights over all other adult teams in the club as the fittest team
- The club will give a certificate for $50 to the winning team to be spent on
Beer & Wings (the breakfast of champions!)
Choosing a Winner
- To be elegible a team must have a minimum of 8 runners complete either of the two 10K runs.
- Scoring is based on an age handicap where each runner has a target time of (their age + 15) minutes.
- One person can run in both races and submit their faster time, but can't count as 2 runners.
- The score for each runner is their time minus their target time.
Clearly lower scores are better and negative scores are best.
- The score for a team is the sum of the best (i.e. lowest) scores for 8 runners
- The lowest team score wins!
