Crozier Park still closed this week (August 18 - August 23)

Due to the amount of rain that we have experienced over the last weeks Crozier park is still too water logged to safely play on.

All week night games this week which normally take place at Crozier Park will be switched to Kemptville College field #8 (which is currently laid out as mini-fields) This includes:

  • Monday U5 Boys House
  • Thursday U5 Girls House
The U3 House on Saturday 23rd location is yet to be decided (Riverside park is not available).

Mens House moved this week (August 19)

Because KCAT 8 is laid out for micro soccer, we need to move the Men's House League games to KCAT 6 and KCAT 7.

Coach Applications

As well as trying out players for our 2007 youth competitive teams this fall we will also be appointing coaches for our youth competitive teams this fall. Applicants must take the Police Background Check form to the OPP themselves, and attach the resulting backgound check to their application.

Competitive Tryouts

We will be holding tryouts at the end of this season to identify potential competitive level players for next year. Tryouts will commence the last 2 weeks of September and 1st 2 weeks of October. There will be 4 tryouts with minimum rosters of players chosen (usually 11), leaving room for new players to join in the spring. Click here for the Tryouts schedule.

5 Good Reasons to hold tryouts in the fall

  • Players can tryout outdoors on real soccer fields
  • Once selected, teams can train together over the winter
  • The quality of the players who try out helps the club decide whether to accept or reject offers of promotion (or demotion) to another division
  • Players are fit and in form at the end of the summer season
  • The number of players who apply helps the club decide which age groups have enough players to run a team next summer

Discipline Review Committee Meetings

August 2006

To all U9 parents and coaches

It has come to the Club's attention that there have been a few issues with the U9 houseleague games. Parents and Coaches are advised of the following:
  • 1) Coaches are NOT permitted on the field at this age unless a player is injured. If a player is injured the REFEREE will motion for the coach to enter the field.
  • 2) Coaches are to ask for a substitution when they wish to substitute players. A substitution may be asked for: on a throw in, on goal kick, or after a goal is scored. There are no substitutions on corner kicks or free kicks nor can a coach substitute on the fly. When a coach asks for a substitution the referee will signal it is okay.
  • 3) Parents are to sit on the opposite side of the field of the players. The only people allowed on the team side are the COACH, ASSISTANT COACH and MANAGER if applicable. Referees have been instructed not start the game until everyone is where they are supposed to be. Lets not make them enforce it as many of them are young and shy! Please speak the convener if you are unsure of where you are to sit.
  • 4) A few requests have been made to make the area in between the fields larger to make more room. We do our best to keep the fields as far away from the large goal posts on the ends as possible to prevent injury. We feel this is more important than making the spectators a little uncomfortable. We have been doing this for years and we need everyone's co-operation to make it work.
  • 5) While Riverside Park is a public park we ask that parents refrain from smoking on the sidelines. Please move off to an area beyond the track to smoke. THANK YOU!
  • 6) A reminder that our young referees are out there doing the best they can. Please be kind and respectful to them as we want them to return year after year. They have been taught to enforce the rules and we want them to do this. It not does help their training if they always let things slide. Please remember this when a referee asks something of you. It probably took a lot of guts for them to do so!

FOUND

A pair of prescription sunglasses was found at Riverside Park near the skateboard park. To claim call the Municipal Center at 258-9620. A set of keys was found at Riverside Park. Contact Kelli at 258-5061.

Coaches Clinics

THE U5 - U9 COACHES CLINIC that was MISSED by all the coaches on May 6th and 14th have now been rescheduled. You can find information on these and all the clinics for coaches and players on our Skills Development page.

Practice Fields

Practice fields are booked as half a field, so don't be surprised to find another team with you. From this point on any team which uses a KCAT field without having booked it through the club will be billed $40. We are charged for each use of those fields and the club cannot be responsible for unplanned use. We work hard to keep our fees down and the sharing of practice fields not only helps this but allows teams within the club to work together. Every effort has been made to put teams of similar caliber together.

Competitive Players Photo Id

This year all players on competitive teams must have new photos for their new EODSA identity cards. Players who missed the photo night must attend the EODSA offices to get their picture taken. Visit the EODSA web site for office hours and directions.

Executive Meetings

Executive Meetings are open to all members, they take place in the club office beneath Giant Tiger. Meetings are planned for the first Monday of each month at 7.30 PM.

Girls Tournament

We are planning to host a major tournament next August. It will be open to Girls competitive teams from U9 to U17. We need volunteers to help organzie this, if you are interested please contact Nancy St-Jean (258 1307).

June 2006

Tax Credits for Soccer?

The recent federal budget did mention a children's fitness tax credit for up to $500 per child. The details have yet to be worked out, we do expect KDSC programs to be elegible, but the program does not start until 2007 so we do not expect this summer's programs to be elegible.

Summer Season Registration

Registration is now officially closed for the 2006 summer season for both House and Competitive Players. We would like to recruit more players at the U11 level (boys and girls) and for adult house league. Beyond that we will only accept new registrations if they help fill empty slots on existing House League teams. Any enquiries about registration should be addressed to the registrar: Ann Miller (258 0113).

Contacting Us

Since Registration is now closed the Soccer club office will not be open Saturday mornings. You can contact us by phone, email or "snail mail", see our Contacts Page for details.

New Equipment Rules- Jewelry

Updated rules coming down from FIFA mean that referrees will be tougher on jewelry this summer. NO item of jewelry of any sort will be allowed on the field of play, even if it is "taped". This includes but not is not limited to necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings, leather or rubber bands, or visible body pierces. Loose beaded hair is also not permitted unless tied back or covered by a net.

So if you are planning to get something pierced, do it soon enough that you can take it out by the time the season starts.

Exceptions to the interpretation are:

  • smooth wedding bands, which, when the referee is convinced cannot be removed may be taped
  • medic alert bracelets are allowed but must be taped.
The taping should be such that the description of the medical problem is clearly visible.

New Equipment Rules- Shirts

Updated rules coming down from FIFA mean that referrees will be tougher on shirt sleeves this summer. All Jerseys MUST have sleeves. The player MAY NOT roll the sleeves up or tie them at the shoulder level

Farewell Paul Dobson

Many of you will have met Paul Dobson who has served the club in many capacities over the last 10 years. This last season he acted as a coach for 2 teams, head referee, referee scheduler and equipment purchaser. Paul and his family have moved to Smiths Falls and Paul won't be invovled in the club any more. Good luck Paul, thanks for all your help.

Indoor Soccer - Futsal

We plan to run our own winter skills and conditioning programs again this year. But for players or teams looking to play matches we are encouraging you to join the Ottawa Futsal League.

Futsal provides programs for U9 - U18 players and adults. It is possible to register as an individual and be assigned to a team, but it is also possible to register as team and play under the Kemptville name. We believe this provides an excellent opportunity for our competitive teams to continue playing as a group over the winter. If you do want to register as a Kemptville Kougars team please co-ordinate this through our president Kelli Cumming (258 1625).

Currently all Futsal games take place in Ottawa, many in Barrhaven. You can find out all the details from their web site http://www.futsalottawa.com/ If there is significant interest from Kemptville players we will attempt to arrange a local venue.

Assistant Webmaster needed

We need a backup plan for maintaning the web site when our webmaster is away. If you are familar with HTML and FTP and would be willing to donate a few hours a year please contact Colin Moden (258 0882).

Coach Clinics

The club is planning to run a series of coach certification clinics. These still have to be approved by the District, but mark your diaries:

  • Level 2 (Youth) - May 29 2005 - Kemptville College
  • Senior - June 4 & 5 2005 - Kemptville College
For the Level 1 clinic the only pre-requisite is a desire to learn, however the Club does hope that all new coaches will take this course. You must have a children's coaching certificate to take the youth coaching clinic; and a youth coaching certificate to take senior coaching clinic.
Kemptville coaches must provide a postdated to cheque (for July 1) to pay for the course, but as long as they coach a team the club will destroy the cheque and pay for the training

In addition to the improved fitness there is beer, wings and bragging rights involved for the winning team. Find out all the details by clicking here.

The Game Nights and Fields information has now been finalized for the 2005 summer season and is available on our Teams & leagues page. Please note that these nights and locations are not gurarranteed. It is possible to buy clothing with the Kemptville soccer logo and our exclusive Kougars logo, check out our Clothing page for details.

Dutch Coaching Clinic

When I was young "Going Dutch" meant that the boy and girl split the cost of the date. But in this case we mean a clinic by a senior coach from Holland.

Grassroots Coach is pleased to announce that one of their headline contributors, Ton de Hoop, will be coming to Ottawa to conduct a 3 Day Dutch Coaching Course on April 29th, 30th, and May 1st which will be held at the state of the art Bell Sensplex Athletic Complex. All coaches completing the course will receive a certificate from the CIOS Nederland (Central Institute for Educating Sports Coaches in Holland). For further information and to register for the clinic please go to http://www.grassrootscoach.com/clinic.htm

U21 House League

We have had some requests for a U21 house league, separate from our Adult House league, if there is enough interest we will run one. There is no specific spot on the registration form for this so players interested in this should sign up for Adult House but write U21 on the top of the form.

Competitive Coaches Meeting

Our head coach wants to have a Pre-season Meeting with all the competitive Coaches and Assistants. The date is Friday, May 6th 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Jonsson's Independent Grocer (upstairs). If you are a Competitive Team Coach you should have received an email about this from our Competitive Convenor, Linda Stefani (258 1885). If you haven't please contact her a.s.a.p.

Friday Night Soccer

Each year our club is growing and we have more teams, which means more matches. Unfortunately it is not so easy to grow the number of fields and referees available each night. To alleviate this pressure we are considering running some U9, U11 or U13 House league games on Friday nights. We would like your input on whether you & your child would be willing to attend an occasional Friday night match. Please click on one of the links below to send us an email.

April 2005

House League Registration

It's not too late! We will be holding Registration for the summer outdoor season on Thursday April 28th, 2005 from 7:00pm. - 8:30pm in the lobby of the Kemptville arena. Registration is still possible for ALL House League ages! Children born in 2001 and earlier are eligible to play. See our Registration page for more details.

We need more Mature Women

For a number of years we have had a successful Womens Over 30 team. This year we are planning to start a Womens Over 40 team as well. Both these teams play in the Goulbourn Lanark League in age specific divisions with teams from nearby towns.

This means that we have extra spots for Women born in 1974 or earlier who would like to play with and aginst their peers. If you are interested please fill in the House league Form marking the Womens Over 30 line.

Competitive Players Registration

Many of our competiive squads are now full and cannot accept any more registrations. All Girls teams are full. We have space on the U9 Boys team. For other Boys teams please contact Linda Stefani to get the latest status.

Competitive players who have registered should check the tryouts schedule this year.

U9 Boys Traveling team

U9 is the lowest age where we run a traveling team. It is not officially competitive but the team does travel to play teams from other clubs, typically in the South Ottawa area. At this age nobody has experience playing on competitive teams, so this is a good way to get a keen soccer player started towards competiive play. This year we need more boys to sign up for the U9 traveling team to make a squad. If you have a boy who was born in 1996 or 97 and is a keen soccer player please consider switching from the House League to the Traveling team. Contact the club if you have any questions.

Class 4 Referee Clinic

This course is now full. This is suitable for anyone who wants to start refereeing. The date is April 16 2005, the location is Kemptville College. The courses run from 8:30 - 4:30 each day. Contact Paul Dobson for more information.

House League Registration

You can register in person at the Community Centre on Feb 26. 9AM - 1PM.
You can also register by mail.
You can also register in person at the KDSC office (beneath Giant Tiger) on Saturdays 10 - 2 Feb 19, throughout March, and up till April 16th.
See our Registration page for details

Competitive Registration Update

Based on competitive player registration numbers at Feb 15th we have decided to run competitive youth teams at specific ages only. See the Teams and Leagues page for details. Additional players can still sign up for these teams.

Adult Competitive teams are still to be decided, please sign up quickly so we know you are interested.

Players who register by the end of February are guarranteed a try out.

Tryouts will be held in March.

U9 Convenor Needed

We are looking for a Convenor to help organize our Senior Tyke (U9) program. Typically this would be a parent of a player in that division. Please email the club or call us at 258 1987 if you are interested.

March 2005

Coach Registration

Competitive Coaches must register by the Feb 26 registration. Interviews will be held Tuesday March 1 and coaches will be chosen by Friday March 4 with coaches expected to begin their tryouts on the 5th. Coaches are encouraged to register early to speed up this process.

February 2005

Girl's U9 Competititive team

Last year we ran our first Boys' U9 Competitive team. The competitive environment is new for all players at this age, but this is a good chance to get early exerience at travelling and playing teams from other clubs. This year we plan to run a Girls' U9 Competitive team as well. If you have (or are) a girl born in 1996 or 1997 who is a keen soccer player please sign up for this team using the Competitive registration form.

December 2004

ISP and emails moving

The club is switching to a different Internet Service Provider. Mostly this will be transparent to our members. The web site has already switched over and remains http://www.kemptvillesoccer.com. However you will notice our emails changing. The old email address kdsc2000@igs.net no longer reaches anybody. This is replaced with a new general email address club@www.kemptvillesoccer.com, plus somespecialized addresses such as webmaster@www.kemptvillesoccer.com. For a complete list of how to contact us see the Contacts web page.

Competitive Registration

We need to get a clear understanding of which competitive teams we will be running in which divisions next year. The teams we run depend on the number of competitive players who register, so we we are asking all of our competitive players to register in January. See the Registration Page for details.

Spring Training

The club will be running a Conditioning and Skills Program and a Recreational Program for Children this Winter/Spring. Registration is now available. See the Spring Program Page for details.

September 2004

Club Audit

New rules for all Ontario Soccer Club's require that our books are formally audited each year. To pay full price for an accountant to do this could cost a considerable sum that would have to be diverted from other commitments. If there are any club members or parents who are qualified accountants and would be willing to audit our books as a volunteer activity plase contact the club by email or phone: 258 1987.

Annual General Meeting

The Club A.G.M. will be held September 18 (Sat.) at 10 AM upstairs at the Community Center. All club members are encouraged to attend. Your involvement will make us a better club.

This years A.G.M. wil include the adoption of a new Club Constitution and Bylaws.

August 2004

Player & Goalkeeping Clinics

As part of our player development process we will be holding a series of free coaching clinics this summer. Check the player clinics schedules for July and August. For goalkeeping clinics Click here.

Old Shirts Put to Good Use

Over time our shirts get worn, torn and lost. Frequently this leaves us with a set of perfectly good matched shirts, but not enough for a whole team. Recently local resident JP Morgan was posted to Haiti with the Canadian Armed Forces. During his tour he was able to distribute some of our old shirts to the Haitian soccer players, who were very thankful. Check out some photos:
  • JP Morgan
  • Handing out the Shirts
  • The Smallest Player
  • The Final Squad
  • Photos Ready

Photos ordered at the Photo day have been delivered to all Convenors for distribution to their respective coaches. Coaches will in turn hand out the orders to the players. Any questions, concerns or problems with individual player orders should be directed to "Picture This Photography Too" at 1-888-725-4444

More Schedules now Available

Photo Day

Photo Day is coming up on June 12th. See the Photo Day web page for a detailed schedule and a preview of photo options available.

Even if you are not particularly interested in a team photo yourself please try to attend, KDSC uses corporate sponsors to reduce costs to our players, one of the benefits to a corporate sponsor is a team photo they can display as evidence of their community involvement, a photo of a full team is much more attractive to them.

The U9 Boys Kougar team will be selling Soccer theme T-shirts at Photo Day. Youth and Adult sizes available. Youth costs $15.00 and Adult costs $20.00 for a 100% Cotton shirt. All proceeds will go the U9 Kougars Competitive team to buy sportswear and other season costs not covered by the club.

U9 Competitive Team

This is the first year KDSC has run an Under 9 travelling team. Both the club and the team are very excited about it. The team is off to a good start with with 1 win and 1 loss, their next game is at home Thursday at Kemptville College, field 5A at 7:00pm, against Kanata. I know they would love to see more supproters.

Start of the Season

KDSC House league U5 - U7 will start this week, U7 on Monday 7th, U5 on Wednesday 9th (at Crozier Park, in Oxford Mills).

If any players or parents have not received a call from their coach yet they should contact the relevant Coach for competitive players, or Convenor for house league players.

Start of the Season

Competitive teams start this week. OCSL and Goulborn-Lanark League schedules are available at their web sites, or you can link to your teams schedule from our Teams page.

Although a schedule has not been posted yet, South Side Soccer League (Where our U13, U15, U18 and Adult Men house teams play) could possibly start next week. Coaches should have gotten a hold of players by this weekend.

ERSL Web Site

Game Nights

Provisional game night information is now available, see our Teams & Leagues page for more details. However these nights may still change before the season starts.

Pre-Season Training

Please keep off all marked soccer fields until May 15 to allow them time to dry. Playing on them now could damage them for the whole season.

April 2004

Special General Meeting

A Special General Meeting will be held at 7:30 at the Courthouse in Kemptville on Wednesday April 21. Protect Your Valuables

Theft happens in any public place, and unfortunately soccer matches are no exception. We've heard of a wallet being stolen from a car parked at St. Mike's for a soccer game. Please make sure that your vehicles are locked, or leave your valuables at home, and be on the lookout for any suspicious behaviour.

Looking for Players

This year we hope to run more Adult Men Recreation teams, we have some players already registered, but we need more. If you play pickup soccer this is your chance to step up to a more organized, but still "just for fun" team.

All our competitive teams are looking for more players to register, especially at the youth levels, the more players we have, the more teams & age groups we can cover. Competitive teams are subject to tryouts.

We will also be running Womens House Soccer, and are looking for new players at that level. A chance to keep fit & have fun!

March 2003

Attention Competitive Coaches

We request your presence at an Important pre season Competitive coaches meeting Thursday March 27th at the Soccer Office. We will have registration lists and other information (pre season practice / tryout dates, game fields, divisions etc.) to pass out. If you have any player cards in your posession from last season, please bring them along.

Meet the Kougar!

We now have an official logo for our competitive Kougar teams:
Look for the Kougar on shirts and other clothing this summer.

Pop Quiz: What is KCAT?
KCAT, of course, stands for the Kemptville College of Agricultural Technology, our local branch of the University of Guelph. Now that the Ottawa Renegades training camp is over the soccer club has use of 4 full adult size soccer fields at the college. This year most of the adult and teenage games are scheduled at KCAT rather than Riverside Park. The fields at KCAT are numbered 1 - 4. Fields 1, 2 & 3 are beside each other and numbered starting from the north end (nearest the hospital). Field 4 is the most southern and is rotated 90o to the others. There is a hedge and a go-hut between fields 1, 2 and 3, 4. Check out the map.

Team Shirt Forms
Coaches: Please fill in and return your shirt number allocation forms as soon as possible. There are directions at the bottom of the form on how to return the infromation.

July 2002

What if it rains? Soccer is an all weather sport. Games (both Competitive and House) will go ahead rain or shine. The referee can call the game off if there is lightning or if he/she believes it would be dangerous to continue for any reason. But this is the referee's decision, which will be made at game time. Coaches and players should arrive for the game ready to play depending on the referee's decision.

June 2002

Photo Day
Is June 1'st. For some teams this may be before your first game. See the Photo Day page.

Icebreaker Tournament
Several Kemptville teams are starting their season by attending the Ottawa Icebreaker Tournament. You can get up to date schedules, maps and other information from the Icebreaker Tournament Web Site.

Under 11 House League Split
After due deliberation the club has decided that the U11 (Atom) House league will play separate Boys & Girls divisions. This decision opens several slots for more girls to join teams.

Start of Junior House Season
U9 (Senior Tyke) and U11 (Atom) House leagues will start play the week of June 3'rd. See the Schedules page for the nights of the week.

Adult Mens House League
Unfortunately the club will not be running an Adult Mens House League this year. We aplogize for the late notice. The executive were juggling possible leagues, locations and player availability until the 11'th hour, but no viable soluiton could be found.

May 2002

Registration
Registration is still open for most teams & leagues.
Registrations for Under 13 & Under 15 House leagues have reached their limit, but additional registrations can be accepted for a waiting list, since some players will probably switch to competitive teams.
The Mens Over 35 team has reached it's cap and no further registations can be accepted.
Find out everything you need to know on our Registration page.

Tryouts
Tryouts and practices for competitive teams will start in early April (see the Calendar for dates & times). If you have registered for a competitive team you will be contacted by your coach soon.
For insurance reasons all players must have registered with the club before attending tryouts or practices. Registration for House League is sufficient.

House Evaluation Nights - Moved to allow for Snow & Hockey
In order to ensure that the games are fun, we evaluate Senior Tyke and Atom house players, and assign them so that the teams are evenly skilled. The evaluation nights are May 15'th for Senior Tyke players and May 16'th for Atom players. The evalautions will be at Riverside Park, at 6:30 PM.

Coaching clinics are confirmed for Level 1 &: Level 2 3M National Community Coaching Certificate. See the Calendar for dates & times. Contact the club if you want to attend.

Coach the Coaches Clinic
We will be hosting a 'Coaching the Coaches Session' on Wednesday evening, June 26th at Crozier Park. This session is being presented courtesy of the Eastern Ontario District Soccer Association (EODSA) and will be run by Colin McCurdy Regional Technical Director.

The session will be for Club Coaches, primarily House League U7, U9 & U11 but is open to all coaches. This session will compliment the 3M clinics and is intended to support the coaches in the practical aspects of coaching at this level.
